The diagnostic process is typically longer than a typical psychiatric assessment. It can take up to two sessions to receive a diagnosis. The test also involves a structured clinical interview with a mental healthcare professional and an adult family member or friend present to give additional information.<br><br>If your GP can't refer you to an individual clinic, you can always go to the NHS to get an assessment. If you think your ADHD symptoms are due to ADHD or other underlying disorders, your GP may refer you to an expert neurobehavioural psychiatrist.
