People suffering chronic pain often have habitual negative thought patterns that increase stress. Cognitive therapy is used by pain specialists to help patients understand how their thoughts can increase or decrease their pain level. Cognitive-behavioral therapy teaches a person to change their thinking and fears that prevent them from planning and managing activities. Stress Reductions Recommendations. Coaching or counseling can be used by therapists so that you can talk about your goals and how to accomplish them.<br>Prevention is better than cure but we will assume for this article that you have shin splints already and need a fast pain relief.
