An investigation carried by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police reveals that widespread networks of cyber criminals have started selling gadgets, electronics and cosmetics by using stolen data of international credit cards from the darknet.<br>Most of these techies, between 16-25 years of age and spread across India, are under the radar of the police for floating their companies by buying products from leading online portals after duping international bank account holders.<br>Security agencies claim that international customers' credit card details are available on the darknet and some open forums, which are leaked by international hackers by compromising card number, CVV and expiry date.<br> A darknet is any overlay network that can be accessed only with specific software, configurations, or authorisation<br>This data can be either bought at a nominal cost or sometime it is also available for free.<br>'While investigating a credit card fraud from a leading online shopping website, we intercepted bulk shopping orders for which payment was done using a credit card belonging to an international bank,' said UP STF's additional superintendent Triveni Singh.<br>Upon further investigation, it was found there are several techies and student groups involved in buying or stealing international credit card details and are illegally using it to shop gadgets from online portals.<br>'These criminals have made it a full-time business and also created a closed member data sharing network. With stolen data, they buy latest gadgets, expensive electronics and cosmetics or air ticket and sell it at attractive prices to their close friends or acquaintance,' Singh said.<br>A senior Delhi Police officer told Mail Today that several Facebook, Twitter and Instagram profiles are selling branded items with warranty at much cheaper rates and they do not offer cash on delivery service to stay away from police net.<br> Security agencies claim that international customers' credit card details are available on the darknet<br>To sell their products bought from stolen cards gang completely rely on social media for marketing and WhatsApp. Most of their clients are students who aspire to use latest technology and has limited budget.<br>'It's mostly young students who are their customers and who give their list of gadgets like latest mobiles, cameras and other electronic appliances.<br>Using stolen cards, they buy these products from shopping portals and then pass on to the end customer at cheaper rates,' the officer explained.<br>Mail Today accessed some of the online forums and found Apple iPhone 7 Plus (128GB), which is available on a leading portal at Rs 76,000 (£925.06) was being offered by such criminals at only Rs 25,000 (£304.30).<br>Similarly Canon's high end EOS 5D Mark IV, which worth over Rs 2.30 lakh was being sold under a lakh with the bill and warranty card. 'Most of these cards belong to various international banks from Washington, New Jersey and Ohio in the US.<br>We have also found card details of Australian and European countries,' Singh said. <br>Police said these scamsters are active in various pockets of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Hyderabad. <br>  Ministry hid tears from WannaCry <br>Although the Central has claimed that global ransomware WannaCry didn't have a serious impact in the country, new official documents reveal that its corporate affairs ministry's key portal for making filings by companies - MCA21 - had come under cyber attack last month.<br>Without disclosing the magnitude of attack, the documents mentioned that the malware affected certain services.<br>The attack was presumably the first on a central government portal and prompt measures were taken to contain it.<br> WannaCry brought the NHS (UK) to its knees last month<br>Last month, WannaCry impacted computer systems and networks in more than 150 countries, including India.<br>Cyber security experts said it affected at least 48,000 systems across various organisations in India, but not many came forward raising doubts whether possible ransomware attacks were being properly reported.<br>Mail Today had earlier reported how corporates are downplaying the incidents and refraining from reporting to the central agency.<br>According to experts, many corporates, institutions and individuals have been hit by the ransomware.<br>But only government offices had come forward and no business enterprises have admitted to the cyber breach.
